About Us and our Dance Lessons!

Take the Floor has been helping couples with First Wedding dance lessons since 2008. We also teach general dance lessons in most styles as well as run Hen and Stag parties, dance workshops for  Corporate Team Building, Parties and Events!

It was set up in 2008 by Kerry Jay whose background was both in ballroom and latin from her mother’s dance school, and her career in Musical Theatre and Commercial Dance. So with a background of a wide array of styles, Kerry loves using all the different techniques to teach Take The Floor’s clients the dance skills they are after!

Our History

Our clients have been varied over the years and it has been fun to find out the different ways people want to bring dance into their lives.

Take The Floor Started when Kerry was asked to teach a friend a dance for their wedding and realised there was a gap in the market for this type of dance lesson. There is a different technique in teaching people to dance for a specific event – you need to look good quickly and some of the technicalities aren’t as important as the effect in the short term – these can be developed later if wanted but the priority is to look good and confident. Kerry believes strongly in the joy of dancing, and to enjoy dancing is her main priority for her clients. Each client is different and has different requirements and it is important to understand that before spending hours on a technicality your ‘audience’ will probably not even notice!

As well as wedding couples we have several regular couples who just want to know how to dance – for a child’s wedding perhaps, or for a cruise, or just to simply fulfil a wish to look good on the dance floor!

We also have groups of people getting together to learn a specific style – chacha, Charleston, Jive, Ceroc, Street Dance, and many more.

Surprise dances and flash mobs are also popular with specific routines and mixed tracks ( we can mix these for you too). And corporate dance workshops and team building events are always popular!

We are always up for a challenge so let us know your ideas!!
