Wedding First Dance lessons and Ballroom dance lessons
- Where are the wedding first dance lessons held?
Wherever suits you. We generally find that a normal front room has quite enough space and couples feel more relaxed in their own home. If you can take 2 strides in one direction and 3 in the other then you have plenty of space for most wedding first dance routines. You are also very welcome to use our space – in Banbury Kerry teaches out of a large extension area in her home which is large enough for most routines, and our Yorkshire teacher has similar. If you prefer we can go to a larger space which we can arrange at a convenient location.
- What regions do you cover?
We are based in Banbury, Oxfordshire and cover Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, and Buckinghamshire.
We also have a teacher based in Tadcaster covering North Yorkshire.
We travel within 40 minutes for the stated prices but will travel further adding travel expenses. Please contact us for a quote for your area.
- How long is each session?
We usually work in 2 hour sessions however there are various packages to suit most people. Please see the wedding dance lesson page or get in touch to discuss your requirements.
- How many sessions will we need?
Usually around 2 – 4 hours are needed for a complete routine – usually with a 2 hour initial session followed by top ups from there. We are happy to do as little or as much as you need however. For example a single hour would not cover a whole routine, however some couples just want a few standard steps and a little dancing know-how instead of a whole routine and to simply boost their dancing confidence. On the other hand we have some couples who have a regular weekly or monthly hour who dance not necessarily for a special occasion but just for the joy of it!
The wedding dance lessons page should be helpful to find which package is best for you, or just get in touch!
- How much does it cost?
Sessions start at £50 per hour and usually work in 2 hour sessions. We offer 20% discount to come to our location.
- Is a deposit required?
Yes. A small deposit is payable to secure your booking. This which is something we have had to introduce this year due to a couple of no shows. We are flexible though and will try our best to reschedule.
Will you help us dance for the rest of the evening?
We want you to feel confident dancing for the whole of your special day and beyond, so we teach you to dance not simply just a routine. We work on the way you hold each other, help the man to ‘lead’ and give you ideas of steps that can be adapted for many different songs and music.
- What is it best to wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable in. If your wedding attire contains elements that may prove restrictive to the routine, you may want to discuss this first and perhaps try a movement with the clothes at some stage. (Don’t worry – we don’t expect a bride to reveal her dress to the groom! She can try the move with the instructor as a partner if she is really worried about the dress’s restrictions) Some ladies like to wear a maxi dress to get used to the length, but usually just comfortable clothes are fine. Ladies my also wish to have their heels to hand for the last few run throughs of the session, but usually the routine is learned in flats ( or socks! ).
- Can we choose our own song?
Of course! In fact this is usually the case and is very much encouraged.
- How long before our wedding should we start?
You don’t want to learn the routine too soon only to forget it for the big day, so we should aim to finish the last session 1 – 3 weeks before your wedding. With that in mind most couples start 4 – 6 weeks before the big day, however it is fine to try a taster hour earlier if you want to get cracking!
- How will we remember the steps after the session is over!
You will be surprised at how much you can remember. To save both of you remembering it slightly differently though (and to avoid an argument a few days after the session!) we usually record the last run through of the lesson on your phone or camera. ( We do this on your camera or phone rather than ours so you have total rights and ownership of it – you would never be recorded and shared online without your full permission). We can also write things down if you find that a more useful way to remember the steps. Different people have different ways of remembering and we have lots of tips and tricks to help you out on this to find the best way for you personally to remember your dance.
- I’ve never danced before and am nervous! Will sessions work for me?
Absolutely! We’ve worked with some total ‘two-left-footers’ before and the results have been fantastic! In fact it impressed the guests even more, and the couple found great confidence through our sessions. 3 minutes or so is a long time to be ‘out there’ for your first dance and it is a lot less nerve wracking to have a few tricks up your sleeve! Also working in the comfort of your home may help relax you ( some couples like to have a glass of wine on the go!). We are super friendly and know what is like to be in a new situation so try our very best to make you feel at ease and not too odd with dancing being out of your usual comfort zone!
- I’m looking for something a little different! Can you help?
We have had all sorts of weird and wonderful requests for dances, from hip hop down the aisle, to 18 Ushers dancing the Riverdance! (link on videos page!) We have had bridesmaids and best men joining in and even parents! Adele linking into Vanilla Ice no probs! We can definitely find something to make your day ultra memorable!
